Iron Mountain is a great dog-friendly hike in Park City. This 3-mile out-and-back hike will take roughly 1.5-2 hours roundtrip.

Start up the trail that begins off of a small roundabout. Once you are on the trail, you will pass through a field before starting your journey to the top of Iron Mountain.

The trail will then take you into a wooded path to the top of Iron Mountain. Get ready to use your legs to get you up the steep incline. Along the way you may see moose and other wildlife, so make sure you make noise so that they can hear you coming. You will also walk among beautiful wildflower, aspen trees and nature.

At the top of the trail, there is a bench to relax on and views of Park City, Park City Mountain Resort and Deer Valley.

  • If you choose to do this hike in the winter, be prepared with snowshoes or yak-traks and hiking poles. Many people choose to hike up and sled down in the winter since it is nicely smoothed out from snowshoes
  • If you were to continue up the trail further to the right instead of going to the overlook, it will merge with Mid-Mountain Trail

GETTING THERE: Follow 224 for 3 miles to Meadows Drive, take a right, go to stop sign. Take a left on Aspen Springs Drive, follow it around to Delta Drive where you'll turn left. At the next stop sign turn right, proceed straight through the next 4 way intersection until you finally come to Iron Canyon Court on the right. The parking spots are marked on this road and the trailhead is at the circle at the end of the road where all the no parking signs are at.

Great Workout in Park City

Iron Mountain made for a great hike/run at the end of the day. I went on a weekday, so it wasn't too crowded. I saw a handful of folks on the trail with their dogs. If you have an hour to an hour and a half, this is great spot to stretch the legs and get a little exercise. Catch your breath at the summit with views overlooking Park City.
